WASHINGTON – A significant catastrophe has devastated your community, and landlines down are. Are you considering in a position to use Facebook or to keep the employees Twitter, customers, and vendors aware of your status? How will you distinguish good information on post-disaster social media channels from the scams? Business and civic market leaders in Joplin, Mo., acquired a crash course in leveraging sociable media following a May 22 tornado that tore through the city, killing 160 harms and people or destroying about 8, 000 homes, and businesses. But if you aren’t adding any degree of the unexpected to your lessons, get ready for some yawns and clear stares and even some dismal test ratings. I’m also not suggesting that your lesson plans have no structure. 40-minute messages. However, the unforeseen ways that we worship and find out is a secret always.

Where can you find good tools to include in your business education lesson programs? You probably don’t need me to tell you this…but perhaps a reminder would be helpful if you haven’t considered these options for awhile. Online learning tools are fabulous and flexible. You can have students do a bit in class, then finish off at home. Some days you can dedicate a larger part of class time to online learning. On others, assign it as homework. If your web-learning tools include things like PowerPoint presentations, you can begin your course with one.

Or end your course with one. Or collect everyone together right in the center of class time and take action then. Online learning tools are a great way to mix up your lesson plans. Guest audio speakers never fail to get students’ attention. And business education is such a great topic for guest loudspeakers because so many people are working for or are associated with a business.

And everyone must deal with personal funds. Drag your neighbor in to talk about his home budget. Pull in your niece to talk about how exactly she’s financing her university education and dealing with student loans and scholarships. Have your economic buyer talk about grants or loans and purchasing supplies. The opportunities are around you.

And just to make things even more interesting, have your guest arrive in the middle of class than in the beginning of class rather. Microsoft IT Academy offers some straight-forward computer applications training towards certification. Throw a few minutes of that into each course as well. Talk to other teachers, like Lynn Huggins.

Now when I say “talk” to other teachers, I’m not being literal. You are very busy, I understand that. So, when I say “talk” to other educators, I mean check out organizations on Pinterest and Facebook. Look for a blog (wink) that resonates with you and subscribe (wink, wink). If you see/read/hear something that sounds unexpected and interesting, throw that into the business education lesson programs. Then sit back and revel in a chuckle as you watch students raise eyebrows at one another and whisper to one another with excitement and anticipation, “What exactly are we doing?
